Dedicated fundraiser Maggie reaches £30,000 milestone for The QEH

Dedicated fundraiser Maggie Drew is celebrating an incredible milestone after reaching her £30,000 fundraising goal for The QEH, inspired by the care her late mother received at the hospital.

Maggie, from Hunstanton, has dedicated more than four years to raising funds for The QEH in memory of her mum, Moira, organising everything from live music evenings and bake sales to supermarket collections and festive fundraising events.

Over the years, Maggie has become well known for organising themed music nights, bringing the local community together while raising vital funds for The QEH. She has also regularly held pop-up fundraising stalls at local supermarkets in Hunstanton, collecting donations and raising awareness of the causes she supports.

Her fundraising journey began following the loss of her mother in July 2020. Moira received care from a number of teams at The QEH, including Critical Care, and Maggie’s gratitude for the care and support her family received inspired her to give something back to the hospital.

Since then, Maggie’s fundraising has supported a variety of areas and appeals across the hospital, including dementia care, the Critical Care Unit, the EPIC Moves Better Lives Appeal and, most recently, the Stroke Unit.

Her latest fundraising efforts have helped support specialist adjustable wheelchairs for patients who have experienced a stroke. The wheelchairs are designed to support patients experiencing challenges including weakness on one side, poor balance and pressure management needs, while also helping patients access the Stroke Rehabilitation Garden for a change of scenery and some fresh air.

Having celebrated reaching the £20,000 mark in March 2025, Maggie set her sights firmly on an even bigger target. Now, just 18-months later, she has achieved her ambitious £30,000 goal.

Maggie’s tireless commitment has also been recognised across West Norfolk. Earlier this year, she was named as a finalist in the ‘Fundraiser of the Year’ category at Your Local Hero Awards, which recognises people who work tirelessly to raise funds for good causes.

Maggie shared: “I’m absolutely delighted to have reached the £30,000 milestone. I’ve been fundraising for The QEH for more than four years now, and it has all been in memory of my wonderful mum, as a way of saying thank you for the care and support she received at the hospital.

“The hospital and its staff did so much for Mum and for our family, and I’ll always be incredibly grateful. Being able to give something back and support different areas across The QEH means so much to me.

“I’d also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported my fundraising over the years, whether you’ve come along to one of my music nights, stopped by a fundraising stall or simply made a donation. I couldn’t have reached this incredible total without you.”

Dawn Collins, Chief Nurse at The QEH, added: “Maggie’s dedication and generosity over the past four years has been truly remarkable, and reaching this incredible £30,000 milestone is a fantastic achievement. Her fundraising has supported so many areas across our hospital, helping us go above and beyond what NHS funding alone can provide and making a real difference to the care and experience of our patients.

“On behalf of everyone at The QEH, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Maggie for her continued support, determination and everything she has done for our hospital.”
